10X Leadership: Why Raising Leaders is the Key to Multiplication
Nov 18, 2024
If you want to multiply your church by 10X, you need to multiply leaders. Churches don’t grow because of better programs or bigger buildings; they grow because of people—specifically, leaders who are equipped and empowered to carry the mission forward. Raising up leaders isn’t just a nice addition to ministry; it’s the backbone of exponential church growth.
Jesus' Leadership Pipeline
Jesus' ministry was laser-focused on raising leaders. His mission to reach the world started with just twelve men. He knew that to reach the masses, He had to invest deeply in a few.
Mark 3:14 says:
"He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach."
Jesus didn’t just call followers; He created a leadership pipeline. Those disciples became apostles, planting churches and raising up new leaders, continuing the cycle of multiplication.
Leaders Multiply, Programs Maintain
Many churches focus heavily on creating excellent programs, but programs without leaders stall. Leaders, on the other hand, can start new ministries, plant churches, and develop others to lead alongside them.
Consider this:
- A great youth program with one youth pastor can grow to a certain point.
- A youth pastor who raises five leaders can spark five new youth ministries or small groups, creating 10X impact.
This principle scales across every area of ministry.
Paul’s Model of Leadership Multiplication
Paul understood this concept well. His letters are filled with instructions for raising leaders. In 2 Timothy 2:2, Paul writes:
"And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others."
Paul’s goal wasn’t to do all the work himself. He poured into Timothy, who then discipled others, creating a ripple effect of leadership multiplication.
Practical Steps to Build a 10X Leadership Pipeline
- Identify Potential Leaders
Look for those already demonstrating faithfulness, character, and a desire to serve. Leadership isn’t always about talent—it’s about heart and teachability. - Invite Them In
Jesus called His disciples personally. Leaders need to be invited into leadership. A personal invitation carries weight and affirms their potential. - Invest in Development
Develop a leadership pathway that equips people at every stage. This could include: - Mentorship
- Leadership classes
- Hands-on ministry opportunities
- Empower and Release
Don’t just train leaders—trust them with responsibility. Let them lead ministries, launch small groups, and take ownership. Empowerment fuels multiplication. - Create a Reproducing Culture
Instill the expectation that every leader should raise other leaders. Leadership isn’t about holding onto power but passing it on. Multiplication thrives in cultures that celebrate sending.
Multiplication Over Addition
Addition grows a single church; multiplication grows a movement. By raising leaders who raise more leaders, your church can move beyond incremental growth and into exponential impact.
The question isn’t if your church has the potential to grow by 10X—it’s whether you’re investing in leaders who can make it happen.
Are you ready to build a leadership pipeline that leads to multiplication?
